About

Elijah’s Bunker is a blog devoted to helping other followers of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ grow in their walk with Him by promoting Biblical living in the contemporary world.

Each weekend, I will post either a passage of the Bible and a verse-by-verse Bible study, or some sort of topical post.  I am merely leading this Bible study, not giving a sermon, so I sincerely hope that all of you will post comments on each day’s study about what you think about the passage so that we can all learn from one another. :-)

Name

You’re probably wondering about the name “Elijah’s Bunker.”

Well, in 1 Kings 17, after the prophet Elijah delivers a dangerous message pronouncing God’s judgment of drought on the land, the Lord tells Elijah to hide himself in a ravine called Cherith.  There, God provides for Elijah and refreshes him before sending him back out to do His work again.

Likewise, a bunker is a place where soldiers can be safe, fed, and refreshed before going back out into the battle.  As we are all soldiers for Christ, I hope that this blog will be a bunker where you can be fed with the Word of God and refreshed through fellowship and prayer, a place where you can get charged up to go out and “fight the good fight” (2 Timothy 4:7).

Testimony

I was raised in a Christian home, but I was about ten years old when I made the decision to actually ask Jesus into my heart and accept Him as my Savior (I remember the exact night, though I’m not certain precisely how old I was at the time).

When I was fifteen, I became mature enough to comprehend the more precise meaning of Him being the Lord of my life, and at that point I made that firm commitment to Him.  Since then, I have experienced a strong outpouring of His Holy Spirit, and I plan to continue to walk with and grow in Him until the day He takes me home.

Statement of Faith

I believe in one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

I believe that Jesus Christ came to earth fully man and fully God, that He was born of a virgin, that He taught and literally did all that the Bible records, that He died on the cross as a substitutionary sacrifice for the sins of all who confess Him as Lord, and that He then rose bodily from the dead as the first fruits of all His believers who will also enter into eternal life, and that He will come back one day to call home His church and usher in the end of the age.

I believe that God has given the Holy Spirit to live in each of His believers, just as He promised, and that He guides us, speaks to us, and still gives us spiritual gifts today.  (Note - while the Holy Spirit speaking to us and granting us spiritual gifts are important issues to me, I do not believe they are "salvation issues.")

I believe that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, fully inspired by Him and fully true.

I believe that all who have accepted Him as their Lord and Savior and believe in His diety, death, and resurrection are saved and will spend eternity with Him, regardless of denomination (see Romans 10:9, 1 Corinthians 1:11-13).
