Not What Things Seem

This week's Bible study tip: Don't neglect the "boring" books!
Many people shy away from books like Job and the Prophets that are notorious for being "heady," thinking that they're suitable for in-depth study but not for daily reading.  However, I have found that these books contain so many beautiful passages that we can easily understand and apply directly to our lives.

So here's a challenge for you today: read one of the shorter "minor prophets" (like Joel, Obadiah, Jonah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, or Malachi).  All of these only have a few chapters (4 max), so it's a short read.  Don't have a Bible handy right now?  Go to www.biblegateway.com - they have many translations in dozens of languages.

This week's prayer requests: (1) A family member of mine is greiving the loss of one of her close relatives.  Please pray that God will comfort her in this time of mourning.  (2) A couple people in my family are doing some extensive travelling this week.  Please pray for their safety.

What do you want prayer for?  Let me know by leaving a comment. :-)

And finally, for this week's video, I'd like to share "White Flag" by Chris Tomlin.  I heard this on the radio the other day, and it struck me because even though a white flag of surrender is usually a negative thing, he flips it around to become something positive - just like Jesus did with concepts like death and submission.  Without further ado, here's the song:
