It'll Take Time

This week's Bible study tip is actually more of a challenge: consider large-scale memorization.  This can be a large number of important or favorite verses, or one to a few chapters, or even an entire book.

Why go to all the effort?  There are plenty of times when we know kind of what verse we're thinking of, but can't remember where it is in the Bible or the exact wording - this will help with that.  In addition, what if there's ever a time when you don't have access to a Bible, like if there's a natural disaster in your region?  If you have some Scripture memorized, you will have access to it that way.  Plus, the work that goes into memorizing it will mean a lot more time spent meditating on Scripture (see Joshua 1:8 and Psalm 1:1-2).

I have tried twice before to memorize the entire Gospel of John, but fell off the wagon both times somewhere in chapter four.  Now, I'm recommitting to starting up again.  Is anyone else with me - will you commit to memorizing some piece of Scripture, even a few verses or a single chapter?

Now here's a song with an equally difficult challenge: "Identity" by Kutless:

Finally, onto prayer requests. :-)  Mine for this week is: it seems like right now, a lot of people in my family and my family's sphere of friends are going through a really hard time facing various issues; please pray for God to comfort them.  Now, what can I pray for for YOU this week? :-)
